According to a recent poll, most Americans think the majority of the oil imported to their country comes from the Middle East. Yet when taking into consideration all the countries that export oil to the country, it’s clear that most of the oil comes from North and South America. Canada is the top exporter of oil to the US. The United States imported about 58% of the petroleum, which includes crude oil and refined petroleum products, that we consumed during 2007. About half of these imports came from the Western Hemisphere. The United States consumed 20.7 million barrels per day (MMbd) of petroleum products during 2007 making us the world’s largest petroleum consumer. In fact, a new poll from the University of Texas shows that three out of four Americans think the United States imports most of its oil from Iraq and Saudi Arabia. This chart shows that they Over the past 20 years, Canada has become by far our biggest foreign supplier of oil. In fact, the U.S. presently consumes almost 70% of Canada’s oil output. According to the Energy Information Administration, in 2015 the U.S. imported 3.2 million bpd from Canada, which accounted for 43.1% of U.S. crude oil imports. U.S. petroleum refineries make gasoline and other petroleum products from crude oil and other liquids produced in the United States or imported from other countries. Nearly all of the gasoline sold in the United States is produced in the United States. America is one of the world's largest oil producers, and close to 40 percent of U.S. oil needs are met at home. Most of the imports currently come from five countries: Canada, Saudi Arabia, Mexico Petroleum in the United States has been a major industry since shortly after the oil discovery in the Oil Creek area of Titusville, Pennsylvania in 1859. The petroleum industry includes exploration for, production, processing (refining), transportation, and marketing of natural gas and petroleum products.

Dang!!! I have been boycotting Citgo, and Citgo Petroleum Corporation, which is owned by the Venezuelan state oil company, is importing almost all of its oil from Venezuela. Yet when all of the U.S.’s oil imports are stacked up, oil from the Middle East comprises less than quarter of U.S. oil imports. In fact, the majority of the U.S.’s imported oil comes from countries in North and South America. The generally accepted theory is that today’s oil reserves come from organic materials that existed millions of years before dinosaurs roamed the earth. About 300 million years ago, these dead

For refineries on the East Coast, the majority of their imported oil comes from Africa, mainly Nigeria and Angola. By contrast, refineries in the Midwest get virtually all of their imported oil via pipeline from Canada. Oil and gas can move through the porous rocks (rocks with gaps between the grains). The oil and gas move upwards from the source rock where they were formed. When they met a layer of cap rock (a rock with no spaces between the grains) the oil and gas are trapped. A well is drilled so that the crude oil and other liquids travel up the bore hole. Many Americans have no clue.
